Columbus Omnichrome Steel

Main Qualities of OMNICROM for Frame Making

Thirty years ago, Columbus and the Paris Welding Institute collaborated on research that led to patents on the Cyclex and Nivacrom alloys. Today, Columbus introduces OMNICROM, a new era in high-performance steel tubing.

Main Features of OMNICROM:

  1. Innovation and Resilience :

    • Low carbon chromium-molybdenum steel alloy.
    • Enriched with Vanadium and a highly controlled production process.
    • High tensile strength (UTS=1300 MPa) and yield strength (Ys≥920 MPa).
    • High capacity to absorb heat and stress during the welding process.
  2. Material Quality :

    • Strict tolerances in alloy composition.
    • Regular crystalline structure, free of inclusions and impurities.
    • High purity, which eliminates anomalous behavior of the alloy.
  3. Ease of Processing :

    • High transition temperature (Ac3=980°), which makes work easier.
    • Smooth and predictable welding behavior.
    • Ideal for TIG welding, as well as butt and flange welding.
  4. Applications and Recommendations :

    • Used in the production of the main triangles of Spirit HSS, Spirit, Life, Max, SL, SLX and CENTO.
    • Suggested material for TIG welding: OK TIGROD 13.12 (AWS 5.28 ER 80S-G).
    • Suggested material for flange welding: Castoline Silver Alloy 38230.

OMNICROM represents the culmination of Columbus' expertise in the bicycle industry, providing cyclists and frame builders with a superior performance steel alloy.
